Reconstrucció virtual: L'instrument no està restaurat ni pot sonar.
Virtual reconstruction: The instrument is not restored and cannot play. The samples were obtained by making air reach the pipes that were still in good condition using various tools, and extrapolating data where necessary. It is therefore an approximation with partially real sounds that can give us an idea of what this organ would be like if it were in good condition.
The saltire organ is a hybrid instrument that combines the mechanics of the organ with the shape and way of playing the saltire, a very popular instrument in the 17th century. It was the idea of Josep Pujol, an organ builder from Manresa who in 1768, faced with the difficulty of keeping the saltires in tune, built one in which the strings were wooden rods that operated air tubes. It was not very successful, since at that time the saltire was beginning to fall into disuse. The saltire organ in the Museum is therefore one of the few that are preserved. It has thirteen pipes per register, a trapezoidal keyboard and three groups of twelve wooden rods that imitate the arrangement and order of the strings of the psaltery. The bellows are at the foot of the instrument. |
